The BRICS group of major emerging economies accepted Vietnam as their official partner country according to Brazil’s government announcement on Friday.

The new diplomatic status represents a significant advancement for Vietnam because it seeks to strengthen its international economic relationships while Southeast Asia faces increasing geopolitical tensions. The partnership between Hanoi and BRICS members Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa strengthens their ties without requiring full membership.
