Phillips 66 operates a 258,000-barrel-a-day Bayway refinery in Linden New Jersey where gasoline production has decreased because of a fire near the gasoline-making unit according to people who have knowledge of the situation.
The fire occurred in ancillary equipment which supports the fluid catalytic cracking unit at the facility because this unit produces most of the gasoline. The investigation team has not identified the source of the incident. The source indicated that the repair process will take several days to finish before the facility can return to full production.
The Bayway refinery produces 155,000 barrels of gasoline daily while serving as a primary fuel provider to the East Coast of the United States. The power outage caused by storms forced Phillips 66 to shut down part of the plant which resulted in temporary price increases for refined products in New York Harbor while the company purchased fuel through spot market transactions.
The company did not respond to a request for comment.
