The Information reports that Apple plans to transform its iPhone release pattern in 2026 by launching its initial foldable iPhone model. The foldable device will arrive with a 5.7-inch closed screen and an 8-inch open display that operates in a book-style format together with the iPhone 18 Pro and the new “Air” model. The standard iPhone 18 will experience a spring 2027 release date while the iPhone 16E follow-up model will accompany it to handle the six-model lineup density. The foldable device will reach a thickness of 4.5–4.8mm when users unfold it while maintaining Face ID functionality. Apple has introduced a new battery case for the iPhone 17 Air to address battery life issues because tests revealed this model performs worse than previous versions. The iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max models will introduce under-display Face ID technology which creates a tiny front camera hole instead of a screen cutout. Apple implements these modifications to achieve equilibrium between product development and manufacturing requirements.
